“The first word from Jesus’ dying lips is a pardoning word in the form of a prayer. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” What wondrous love is this, that pardons the persecutor, that forgives the injurer even as the injury is being inflicted, that makes peace with the enemy while the battle rages on? Such a pardoning word the world does not know and cannot speak. Only the Suffering Servant-Son can pray such a prayer and speak such a word. He came to give His life as a ransom for the many.”from “Words of Life from the Cross,” Concordia Publishing House, 2010
This year our Lenten Journey will examine the words that Jesus gives to us from the cross. We will begin with the Pardoning Word from Luke 23:34. We will also consider the Promising Word, the Faithful Word, the Compassionate Word, the Suffering Word, the Dying Word, the Remembering Word and the Fulfilled Word. At last, we will celebrate the Vindicated Word. Please make plans to attend the mid-week worship services as we journey together through this season of repentance and self-examination. As we walk with Jesus toward his cross for our sake let us worship together and listen to his dying words and what love he is showing us during his deepest suffering. Services will be at 6:00 p.m on Wednesdays. If you would like to attend but don’t care to drive in the evenings, we can happily arrange rides. Let Terri or Pastor know, and we’ll make sure you have ride. Holy week services are delayed until 7:00 p.m. to allow for travel time as Maundy Thursday will be at Hope in Midland and Good Friday will be a shared service here at Faith Fellowship. After Easter, we take three weeks off then resume our Wednesday night Theology Classes at 6:00 p.m. beginning April 28th . God’s blessings to you as we enter the Season of Lent.
